Resources for Healing and Personal Growth
Healing and growth take work. I didn’t get to this place on my own. It came through years of studying, reflecting, learning from others, and applying what I could, even when I had very little support. I’ve spent countless hours listening, reading, and leaning on the wisdom of those who came before me. Staying stuck may feel easier in the moment, but in the long run, it drains your energy and peace far more than doing the work to heal.
This is one area of life where no one else can do it for you. And I know what it feels like to want support but not have the resources to afford therapy. That’s what inspired me to join the community of people who are trying to help others heal. I want to be one of those people too.
On this page, you’ll find free downloads I created to help you get started, YouTube channels that guided me when I didn’t have access to professional help, and book recommendations that truly changed how I see myself and the world. My journals are one tool. These resources are more tools. All of them have helped me, and I hope they help you too. It’s worth the time. You are worth the time.

There were times in my life when therapy wasn’t accessible, and I needed support that felt real, grounded, and wise. YouTube became one of my greatest resources. Books That Guided My Growth and Helped Me Heal
I didn’t wake up one day knowing how to find peace. I didn’t suddenly become someone who could guide others through emotional healing or personal transformation. I had to earn this awareness. It came from years of doing the work, reading, learning, unlearning, and opening myself to the wisdom of those who came before me.
These authors helped shape the foundation of what I now share through Journals to Healing. Their words held me when I was unraveling. They challenged me to face my patterns, reframe my thoughts, and return to the truest version of myself. I studied their messages, sometimes more than once, and slowly began to channel their guidance into my own life.
I tip my hat to every one of them. Writing about healing is no small task. It takes courage, compassion, and a deep desire to help others grow. These books exist because someone believed that peace should be possible for everyone. That belief helped change my life, and now I hope it helps change yours.
Below you’ll find a curated list of the most powerful books I’ve read on trauma recovery, emotional regulation, mindset, spiritual growth, and self-awareness. These are the voices that lit my path when it was dark, and I’m honored to pass them on to you.
Outrageous Openness
By Tosha Silver
I can not tell you how much I love this book! It’s my go-to book when I feel overwhelmed. Tosha Silver shares deeply personal stories that always help me put things into perspective. Her writing feels like a conversation with a wise friend, and the audiobook, which she narrates herself, is incredibly soothing. Her voice feels like comfort and clarity wrapped in one. If you're struggling with control, uncertainty, or just want to feel held by the universe, this book is healing on every level.
It’s Not Your Money
By Tosha Silver
Surrendering control and trusting that what is meant for you will find its way is the heart of this book. Tosha Silver redefines abundance in a way that extends far beyond money, reminding us that gratitude, clarity, and peace are equally valuable. I turn to these pages whenever I feel stuck or overly attached to outcomes. It always brings me back to the issue of trust. Like her other work, the audiobook is narrated in her calming voice and is just as impactful.
Joyful Wisdom
By Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche
When I was struggling with anxiety attacks, this book changed my life. The author shares his own journey with anxiety and offers gentle but powerful wisdom for learning how to sit with our emotions instead of trying to run from them. His teachings helped me develop a new relationship with my fear. It’s been years since I’ve had a panic attack, and this book played a big role in that.
Healing the Shame that Binds You
By John Brandshaw
Shame is one of the heaviest emotional burdens we carry, and this book helped me understand how much of it I was holding. John Bradshaw explains the difference between healthy and toxic shame and how unprocessed shame can create toxic cycles in our lives. His work gave me the language and tools to start releasing the weight of it so I could grow with more self-compassion and integrity.
Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving
By Pete Walker
I began to understand myself in ways I never had before after reading this book. Pete Walker explains the four trauma responses: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn, and how they develop from early life experiences. He offers clear and practical guidance to help you recognize your patterns and begin the healing process. The insight was incredibly validating and gave me real hope that change is not only possible but within reach.
Think and Grow Rich
By Napoleon Hill
It’s all about mindset, how you think of yourself and the world around you. It helped me shift my perspective on myself, my potential, and my role in shaping my reality. The core message is that your thoughts create your experience. One quote that stuck with me is, "You can convince your mind of anything." That truth has guided me through so many hard seasons.
It Didn't Start with You
By Mark Wolynn
I finally began to understand that some of my deepest struggles were inherited, not created. Mark Wolynn explains how generational trauma can shape our fears, habits, and emotional responses in ways we don’t always recognize. What stands out most is his ability to offer practical tools for identifying and breaking those patterns, so they don’t continue to pass through families. It’s one of the most important books I’ve read for anyone ready to stop the cycle and start healing.
Codependent No More
By Melody Beattie
Reading this book opened my eyes more than I expected it to. I had always believed I was just being helpful, but Melody Beattie helped me see that my need to fix and please others was actually rooted in control. I was carrying other people’s pain and making their problems my own. Her words helped me understand codependency in a way that felt both compassionate and empowering. The tools she shares gave me a new sense of clarity and helped me begin to reclaim my identity
The Human Magnet Syndrome
By Ross A. Rosenberg
This book helped me understand why I kept attracting people who were emotionally unavailable or harmful to me. Ross Rosenberg explains how people with strong empathy are often drawn to those with narcissistic tendencies, and how to break those patterns. The biggest shift for me was realizing that healing doesn't mean fixing someone else; it means healing myself. It means protecting yourself by growing your self-worth and recognizing what a real connection looks like.
